Brussels, 26/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Union is about to come to the aid of Tajikistan, which has suffered from severe floods and mudslides, the worse the country has experienced in the last 50 years. At the request of the Tajik authorities, the European Commission has activated its Monitoring Information Centre (MIC) at Directorate General Environment, which will coordinate assistance. On Wednesday 27 May, an expert from MIC and experts from four member states (Austria, Czech Republic, Latvia and Sweden) will be joining forces with the national authorities and international partners in the field to facilitate the distribution of relief items.
