Spain wants assurances on increased number of MEPs once new treaty comes into force

Brussels, 20/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - At the June European Council, Spain will seek assurances that it will, indeed, have 54 MEPs in the new Parliament as soon as the Lisbon Treaty comes into effect, and not 50 only, as provided for in the Treaty of Nice on the basis of which the new Parliament will be elected from 4 to 7 June.
