Brussels, 19/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 19 May, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) published a report that recommends review of the sector's policies and priorities for 2009-2010. The report focuses on four areas - the environment, mobility, the market and the economy, and the regulatory framework - and calls on the EU to develop a simple regulatory framework that supports the sector and does not involve any further costs. “The commitment to solutions that tackle issues like climate change and road safety remains at the heart of all manufacturers' strategies”, but “innovation relies on a vibrant and competitive sector”, write ACEA President Carlos Ghosn (Chairman and CEO Renault) and Secretary General Ivan Hodac in the foreword of the report. They go on to say that a “new deal” for sustainable mobility means accepting a thriving economy as the foundation for a healthier environment. The report, which appeared a few days after publication of the less than encouraging results in the car industry (see related article), also considers European policies on transport, such as the modal taxation system, review of the European transport policy and intelligent transport systems.
