Brussels, 18/05/2009 (Agence Europe) -British electricity transmission system operator (TSO), the National Grid, last week, joined its French and Belgian partners RTE and Elia, as a new shareholder within the joint regional technical coordination centre Coreso, which was set up in Brussels on 18 February (see EUROPE 9844). The three TSOs now each hold one third of the capital of Coreso. National Grid's involvement will allow the new centre to develop international trade and enhance the operating safety of the power systems and the fluidity of energy exchanges between the UK and the continent, taking account of the flows on the existing DC cable IFA (linking France and Great-Britain), and its influence on the grids on the both sides of the Channel. A further aim of this collaboration is the development of future projects to build off-shore wind farms and new DC cables across the Channel and in the North Sea. (E.H./transl.rt)
