29/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 27 April, the European Commission announced the appointment of three new members of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council (ERC). The new members are: Prof. D. Sierd Cloething from VU University Amsterdam; Prof. Carlos Duarte, from the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC); and Prof. Henrietta Moore, of the University of Cambridge. The appointments were made after three members resigned for personal reasons - Manuel Castells, Paul Crutzen and Lord May of Oxford. The three new members were appointed after independent selection procedure during which the scientific community was consulted. They will have a four year term of office. (B.C./transl.jl)
