Brussels, 29/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 29 April, the European Commission gave its go-ahead to the use of public funding for the development of Rzeszów Jasionka regional airport. The aid, which totals 650 million Polish zloty, will be used to modernise the airport. It will allow a new terminal building to be built, as well as an apron area and taxiways. Sources of funding include contributions from the region of Podkarpackie, the European Regional Development Fund, and the Cohesion Fund. The Commission takes the view that the measures proposed are in line with Community rules given that funding is in the general public interest and does not entail competition distortion. The Commission also agreed that public property (land, buildings and airport equipment) could be transferred to the new airport operator. (L.C./transl.jl)
