Brussels, 29/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - Czech Home Affairs Minister Ivan Langer said on Tuesday 28 April that he thought that European countries would accept Guantanamo detainees, but he ruled out any possibility of the Czech Republic doing so. “I expect Europe will take some, and there is a strong will to do so among some countries,” he is quoted by AP as saying. “We won't accept anybody because there is a very low chance of integration of such people” in the Czech Republic, he added, at the Justice and Home Affairs ministerial troika meeting with the United States in Prague. On Tuesday, US Attorney General (Secretary of State for Justice) Eric Holder officially asked the European Union to agree to take in some prisoners. “We need to find places for these people to go, and we have asked for assistance from our partners in the EU,” he said at a press conference. Langer said that it was critical that US authorities share “the maximum information” on the detainees, so that Europeans know exactly who they are accepting into their countries. (B.C./transl.rt)
