16/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Disability Forum (EDF) has created a website to promote better participation by persons with disabilities in the European elections. There are over 65 million people with disabilities in Europe, i.e. 15% of the electorate. The website, http://www.disabilityvotescount.eu , encourages European candidates to become involved in the needs and requests of disabled citizens when it comes to European policies and legislation. It also highlights what should be provided in order to make voting accessible to persons with disabilities. The EDF manifesto, entitled “Nothing about disabled persons without disabled persons”, sets out ten priority areas for eliminating discrimination against persons with disabilities. (E.M./transl.jl)
