16/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - Nine members of the European Parliament (Christofer Fejellner and Edward McMillan-Scott of the EPP, Paulo Casaca and Stavros Lambrinidis of the Socialists, Jules Maaten, Karin Riis Jorgensen and Henrik Lax of the Liberals, and Eva Lichtenberger and Frithjof Schmidt of the Greens) launched a campaign on Facebook on 16 April for direct access to the internet everywhere in the world. This network campaign aims to denounce censorship and to call for the promotion of online freedom. The main objective is to raise a debate in countries that control internet access and content. In July 2008, the same MEPs had already suggested legislation for free internet access, the Global Online Freedom Act (EU GOFA), which is based on a similar proposal made in 2006 by the United States House of Representatives.
