Brussels, 03/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - United States President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will meet EU heads of state and government at an informal summit in Prague on Sunday 5 April. The financial and economic crisis, climate change, transatlantic relations and a number of international political issues (Afghanistan, Middle East, Iran, Iraq, Russia, Africa and others) will be debated. It will fall to President in office of the European Council and outgoing Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek to open discussions. EU foreign ministers, High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana and European Parliament President Hand-Gert Pöttering will also attend the meeting. The plenary session will be preceded by a bilateral meeting between President Obama and Commission President José Manuel Barroso on Sunday morning. Barroso will be accompanied by External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner. The US president will also deliver a public speech on the Hradèanské Námìstí Square outside Prague Castle. Obama will arrive in the Czech capital in the late afternoon of Saturday 4 April. He will be met at the airport by Czech President Vaclav Klaus and Mirek Topolánek. A joint press conference given by Messrs Obama, Topolánek and Barroso will conclude the summit. Obama will then fly on to Turkey. (H.B./transl.rt)
