01/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - Daniel Speckhard, the new US ambassador to Greece, said on Tuesday 31 March that the latest chapter in negotiations with Athens on the US visa waiver programme (VWP) could be concluded by the summer, according to ANA. Speckhard pointed out that two of the three chapters of the agreement have basically been finalised with the remaining chapter, on criminal data sharing, now the subject of back-and-forth consultation between the two sides. “The goal is to see this thing wrapped up by the summer”, he said. Five member states (Greece, Poland, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania) are still not part of the VWP (EUROPE 9811). (B.C./transl.jl)
