Prospects of definitive agreement on 3rd liberalisation package

Brussels, 31/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - After the member states' Ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) on 27 March, the European Parliament energy committee, on 30 March, approved the formal adoption on second reading of the compromise reached between the Czech Presidency of the EU and the Parliament on 23 March on the 3rd legislative package on the liberalisation of the internal electricity and gas market (see EUROPE 9868). A definitive agreement will be reached when the five legislative texts in the 3rd package, amended by the Morgan report on the electricity directive, the La Russa report on the gas directive, the Vidal-Quadras report on the electricity regulation, the Paparizov report on the gas regulation and the Chichester report on the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy regulators, are put to the vote in the plenary session in Strasbourg on 21-24.
