France will have to tighten legislation for authorising intensive poultry rearing

Brussels, 26/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - The Court of Justice says that French authorities will have to amend their national legislation on intensive farming to bring it into line with Community law. In particular, it says, the notion of “animal equivalents” established by French decree, does not comply with Council directive 96/61/EC on pollution (C-473/07, on which judgment was delivered on 22 January).
