Brussels, 18/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a letter on 13 November, the European Commission informed the Spanish telecommunications regulator, Comisión del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones (CMT), that it had serious doubts as to whether the draft measures on the Spanish wholesale broadband access market were compatible with EU law. It is unprecedented that a national regulator should propose to regulate wholesale broadband access only up to a certain speed (30 Mb/s in this case), the Commission said in a press release on Friday 14 November. The Commission is also unhappy with the CMT proposal to impose less stringent regulation in areas where alternative infrastructure operators seem to be active. The CMT informed the Commission of these measures on 13 October 2008. The Commission now has two months to make its final decision.
