28/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 20 October, the EU Council of Ministers adopted without debate a directive updating the prohibition on the use in stockfarming of certain substances having a hormonal or thyrostatic action and of beta-agonists (EUROPE 96678 on the European Parliament's vote). The prohibited substances are: thyrostatic substances, stilbenes (and stilbene derivatives), and oestradiol 17â and its ester-like derivatives. The other list comprises banned substances but with possible derogations, namely: beta-agonists. Member states must put into effect legislative, regulatory and administrative provisions necessary to comply with the directive by 1 January 2009 at the latest. (L.C./transl.jl)
