18/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - As expected, on Thursday 18 September, the European Commission adopted a proposal to improve animal welfare at the time of slaughter (see EUROPE 9740). Abattoirs will be required to designate a person responsible for animal welfare and operators will have to evaluate the effectiveness of stunning methods. (L.C./transl.rt)
