Brussels, 16/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Agency, is seeking to improve public communications network security, by publishing guidelines which will be presented at a workshop to be held in Brussels on 12-13 November. At the moment, it is taking stock of and analysing national practices and legislations on the matter, and is studying existing technologies for protecting networks. Three technologies have been identified as the most effective: MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching), DNSSEC and IPv6. To make it easier to identify potential problems which could compromise the availability of networks and services, ENISA also asked a number of operators for their opinions. Recently, an attack in the DNS (Domain Name System, which allows a connection to be made between an IP address and a domain name, and, more generally, to find information from a domain name, created chaos on the internet, attracting ENISA's attention to the need to find a solution to these attacks.
