“Best Idea for Red Tape Reduction Award” launched

Brussels, 16/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - The competition to find the “Best Idea for Red Tape Reduction” will be officially launched in Brussels on Thursday 18 September by Dr Edmund Stoiber, who chairs the High Level Group of Independent Stakeholders on Administrative Burdens. The award of the prize will reward innovative suggestions on ways to reduce superfluous administrative formalities that result from Community legislation. The launch of the competition follows on from the Commission initiative, approved by the European Council of March 2007, to reduce bureaucracy by 25% by 2012. The competition is open to individuals and companies. “Let us know what could be done better, we would like to hear your ideas to reduce red tape,” says Stoiber in a press release. He goes on: “I'm looking forward to launching this competition. We want concrete proposals from our citizens to reduce unnecessary bureaucracy”. Best Idea for Red Tape Reduction Award complements the Red Tape Reduction Award, one of the five categories in the European Enterprise Awards, which rewards public authorities that have delivered red tape reduction measures at a local, regional or national level.
