THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/serbia

04/08/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Sunday 3 August, Boris Tadic, repeated that EU accession certainly was a priority objective for Serbia but said that the country had not given up on Kosovo. During a press conference, the Serbian president declared that, “Serbia's EU membership is the supreme national interest and this movement will not give up on it”. Mr Tadic added, however, that, “Serbia will never give up on its territorial integrity and sovereignty”. A few days after the transfer of Radovan Karadzic to The Hague, Mr Tadic said that his country was fully prepared to cooperate with the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ITFY), although Ratko Mladic (former commander in chief of the Serbian Republic of Bosnia) and Goran Hadzic (former president of the self-proclaimed Serbian Republic of Krajina) are still on the run.
