Brussels, 02/07/2008 (Agence Europe) -In May 2008, the industrial producer price index increased by 1.2% in the eurozone and by 1.3% of the EU27, compared to April 2008, during which month they increased by 0.9% and 1.1% respectively. Compared to May 2007, industrial producer prices increased by 7.1% in the eurozone and by 8.9% in the EU27. Seen on a monthly basis, prices for industry as a whole, not including energy, increased by 0.3% in the eurozone and by 0.4% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by 4.1% and 3.3% respectively. The sharpest increases were recorded in Denmark (+ 3.0%), Greece and the United Kingdom (+ 1.7% each). The only drop observed was in Sweden (-0.3%). Taken annually, prices for industry as a whole, excluding energy, increased by 3.8% in the eurozone and by 4.3% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by 18.2% and 22.7% respectively. The largest increases were to be seen in Denmark (+ 18.4%), the United Kingdom (+ 16.5%) and Lithuania (+ 15.1%), and the lowest in the Czech Republic (+ 5.2%) and Sweden (+ 5.7%). (A.B.)
