UNHCR demands that French Presidency protect refugees

Brussels, 02/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has warned the French Presidency of the EU not to promote a harder line in EU migratory policy at the expense of refugees' rights. “The UNHCR hopes that France will take the lead in making sure that migration management measures are not at the expense of refugee protection”, spokesperson Jennifer Pagonis said in a press release on Tuesday 1 July. “The UNHCR also urges France to take forward...
