Brussels, 02/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - On 2 July, the European Commission authorised aid of €73 million, which the German authorities plan to grant to Intico Solar for the production of thin film solar modules in Sachsen-Anhalt (Germany). The plan entails a total investment of €585 million and is expected to help create more than 1000 jobs, directly and indirectly. The Commission took the view that this measure was compatible with the provisions of the guidelines concerning regional aid for 2007-2013 and, in particular, the rules applicable to large investment projects, as the measure would gain Intico Solar neither a significant new market share nor a significant increase in production capacity in a declining market. In other words, the positive effects of the investment on regional development can be considered to outweigh any potential distortions of competition. (O.L./trans.fl)
