Brussels, 27/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament committee on constitutional affairs decided last week to suspend work on several parliamentary draft reports concerning the Lisbon Treaty. MEPs are thus looking at the consequences of the Irish “no”, pending future decisions by the European Council to overcome the institutional crisis. Two draft reports have already been put on the back burner, that by Jean-Luc Dehaene (EPP-ED, Belgium) on the impact of the Lisbon Treaty on the development of the institutional balance of the European Union, and that by Jo Leinen (PES, Germany) on Parliament's new role and responsibilities implementing the Treaty of Lisbon. At the EP, it is explained that three other draft reports will probably know the same fate during forthcoming meetings of the parliamentary committee: - those by Elmar Brok of Germany (EPP-ED) on development of the relations between the European Parliament and national parliaments under the Treaty of Lisbon, and the institutional aspects of creating a European service for external action, as well as that by Genowefa Grabowska (PES, Poland) on perspectives for developing civil dialogue under the Treaty of Lisbon.
