25/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - The director general of DG Environment at the European Commission, Danish national Mogens Peter Carl, has joined the cabinet of the French ecology and energy minister, Jean-Louis Borloo, to whom he will be a “special adviser” in charge of negotiations over the EU's energy and climate package (see EUROPE 9586) under the French Presidency of the Council of the EU. Paris wants to make use of Carl's services for a year and a half, until the UN conference on climate change in Copenhagen in December 2009. The president of the European Commission, Barroso, has agreed to Carl being posted to the French ecology ministry for six months. (E.H./ transl. fl)
