19/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a new study, the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) warns companies of threats from accidental loss or theft of confidential corporate data on unsecured USB flash drives. The use of such devices, which offers unprecedented possibilities of data storage, is today very widespread. Businesses, however, are unaware of the fact that these mobile devices often lack security control (about 90%) and there are frequent incidents of data loss or piracy, ENISA warns. Among the 19 recommendations put forward, the European agency advises businesses using USB flash drives to carry out complete risk assessments of what the precise cost of data leakage would be, and to envisage security devices for preventing such risk.
