19/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 19 June, the European Parliament called on the Council to reject the proposal to lift the ban on chickens treated with chlorine solutions (see EUROPE 9685). It adopted a joint resolution from the EPP-ED, PES, ALDE, Greens/EFA, GUE/NGL and UEN groups by a very wide majority (526 votes to 27, with 11 abstentions), and indicated that it felt that the proposed authorisation of four antimicrobial treatments - including chlorine - to decontaminate poultry...
