Parliament opposes lifting of ban on imports of American chicken treated with chlorinated water

Strasbourg, 18/06/2008 (Agence Europe) -In a joint resolution by the EPP-ED, PES, ALDE, UEN, Greens and GUE/NGL Groups, which it is to adopt on Thursday 19 June, the European Parliament is set to call on the Agriculture Council to reject the proposal of the European Commission, put on the table on 28 May this year (EUROPE 9669), aiming to lift the ban on chicken treated with chlorinated solutions. The EP believes that this decision would undermine European food safety standards.
