Brussels, 18/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - Following the hearings on Monday 16 June (see EUROPE 9684), the European Parliament, on Wednesday 18 June, approved the appointments of Jacques Barrot and Antonio Tajani to the College of Commissioners. MEPs voted by 489 votes to 52, with 19 abstentions for the change of portfolio for Commission Vice-President Jacques Barrot, who is taking over responsibility for Freedom, Security and Justice. The Frenchman replaces Franco Frattini and leaves his former portfolio of Commission Vice-President with responsibility for transport to Tajani. MEPs approved the appointment of the former Italian MEP by 507 votes to 53, with 64 abstentions. (A.B./transl.rt)
