Mario Monti in favour of another Irish vote

Brussels, 17/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - How can one find a solution to the impasse created by the Irish referendum? Former European Commissioner Mario Monti, President of Bocconi University in Milan, is one of those who consider that those who say “no” to the Lisbon Treaty should vote again in answer to the following question: “Do you want your country to remain a member of the Union with the new rules that an overwhelming majority have accepted? Or do you want to leave the Union?” Mr Monti pointed out that he had already suggested, several years ago, that the countries that reject the treaty by referendum be consulted one year later on their desire to remain in the Union, and that one explicit question should be put to them.
