Brussels, 13/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a referendum on 12 June 2008, the Irish rejected the Lisbon Treaty by 53.4% voting no, according to results announced on Friday afternoon in Dublin. As the EU's institutions are actively preparing for the new treaty to come into force on 1 January 2009, the Irish 'no' vote has sent the EU into a new institutional crisis whose outcome is difficult to predict at this stage.
