12/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 12 June, the Council adopted conclusions on the European Commission's communication on the i2010 initiative mid-term review. Ministers welcomed the Commission's aim to set up a long term programme for European information and media policies, highlighting the effective functioning of the single market and the participation of all citizens in the information society. Commissioner Viviane Reding said that in connection with this last point, broadband access was at the core of Commission priorities. She was delighted that such importance had been placed on this subject in the work of the French Presidency. (I.L./transl.rh)
