11/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen announced on Wednesday 11 June that his government would decide “at the start of August” on the date and number of referendums it would hold in the autumn to get rid of its four Maastricht Treaty opt-outs: the euro, defence, legal cooperation and European citizenship. “The government will take the summer to consider a report (on the opt-outs) by the Danish Institute for International Studies and will decide at the start of August when and how a referendum could best be organised,” said Rasmussen, who believes that the opt-outs are now “incompatible with Danish interests”.
