Shortcomings noted in surveillance of BSE in Romania and Bulgaria

Brussels, 11/06/2008 (Agence Europe) -Inspectors from the Food and Veterinary Office (FVA) have noted shortcomings in measures taken in Romania and Bulgaria to monitor and eradicate bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), according to reports published on Wednesday 11 June by the European Commission. Several recommendations had been sent to these countries, particularly on screening tests for BSE carried out on bovine animals and the obligation on farmers to notify any suspect animals...
