Brussels, 29/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Slovenian Presidency of the EU has criticised the Egyptian parliament's vote on 26 May for extending the state of emergency (in force for several decades) by two years. In a declaration published on 28 May, the Presidency of the EU said it hoped that the law would be abolished before the two years had expired. It is also hoping that Egypt adopts, as soon as possible, counter terrorism legislation in line with international standards. (H.B.)
