Brussels, 27/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 20 May, Hungarian and United States representatives signed an agreement on data exchange in order to help identify terrorists, the Hungarian press agency MTI reports. The agreement - a prerequisite for Hungary's exemption from U.S. visa requirements - was signed in Budapest by the minister in charge of Hungary's civilian secret services, Gyorgy Szilvasy, and U.S. Ambassador to Hungary April H. Foley. It still has to be officially approved by parliament, but all five political parties are likely to support it. Foley, pointing out that Hungarian citizens would no longer be required to hold entry visas when visiting the United States, said that US approval for Hungary to participate in the visa-free program was expected in October. Hungary is one of 12 EU countries which is not yet part of the United States' visa waiver scheme. (B.C.)
