27/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - Alongside the heads of state of Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania and Ukraine, the European energy commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, attended the 3rd energy security summit on Friday 23 May in Kiev, held as part of the “Krakow initiative” after the summits in Krakow in May 2007 and in Vilnius in November 2007 (EUROPE 9519, 9520 and 9522). A forum on energy was held the day before attended by businessmen and business leaders from around 30 countries. The main item on the agenda of the Kiev summit, hosted by Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, was implementation of the project for the new Odess-Brody-Plodz-Gdansk oil pipeline that is to link the Caspian and Baltic Seas to carry oil from Central Asia to the Community market by 2011 (EUROPE 9520).
