Parliament wants measures for less dangerous SCRAPPING of old ships by 2010

Brussels, 22/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - By adopting (405 for, 251 against, 5 abstentions) the own-initiative report of Johannes Blokland (IND/DEM, Netherlands) on the Green Paper for improving practices for ship dismantlement (EUROPE 9432), the European Parliament gave its support on 21 May in Strasbourg, to the Commission's analysis of the harm to workers and the environment caused by these activities. Insisting on the urgent need to respond, it called for EU measures to be taken by 2010,...
