Brussels, 06/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana is on visit to the Central African Republic and Chad on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 May to restate the EU's commitment to finding a solution to the Darfur crisis. Solana's visit began on Tuesday with a meeting in Bangui with the president of the Central African Republic, François Bozizé. He then went to the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, where he had a meeting scheduled with Chadian President Idriss Déby. Their meeting was followed by a working dinner. Wednesday will be devoted to the military operation currently led by the EU in the region (EUFOR Tchad/RCA). Accompanied by the force commander, French General Jean-Philippe Ganascia, the EU high representative will visit the EUFOR headquarters where he will be briefed on developments in EUFOR deployment. Mr Solana will then go to Abéché to meet the representatives of the United Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs (OCHA) as well as NGO representatives working in the region. His visit will continue to Goz Beïda (south-east of Abéché), where he will have an opportunity to see the work currently carried out on the ground by EUFOR troops and to visit camps of refugees and displaced persons that the force is to protect. Mr Solana's visit comes shortly after that of the chairman of the EU Military Committee (EUMC), General Henri Bentégeat, who was there on 25 and 26 April.
