28/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - Among the presentations at the 1st European Lung Cancer Conference in Geneva on Friday 25 April was an American study, carried out by Dr Arash Rezazadeh and colleagues from the University of Louisville, Kentucky, which found that the presence of the HPV virus could cause some lung cancers. The human papilloma virus causes most forms of cervical cancer. The findings of the study, on a small sample of 23 patients, still have to be confirmed. The measles virus is another possible cause of lung cancer, according to Professor
Samuel Ariad from Soroka Medical Centre in Israel. The conference was organised jointly by the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). (O.J.)
