EU officials go back to school on Monday 14 April

Brussels, 11/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - On 14 April, more than 350 Dutch EU employees, who currently work at EU institutions (the European Commission, Council, Parliament, Court of Justice, Economic and Social Committee and Committee of the Regions) in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg, will visit their former secondary schools in the Netherlands. They will discuss their work and their involvement in Europe. As part of a general debate on increasing the EU's proximity to its citizens, the EU 'Back to School' project is an initiative organised by the European Commission's Permanent Representation in The Hague and the Dutch foreign minister. 'Young Europeans are eager to discuss their future in Europe. They are hungry for knowledge but also want to express their wishes,' commented Dutch European Affairs Minister Frans Timmermans, who will also be visiting his secondary school. Several Dutch MEPs are also involved in the project. Last year, a similar project was organised in Germany. (H.B.)
