Brussels, 10/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - The article on the Paris Forum in newsletter No 9634 of Thursday 3 April has brought several reactions. Andrea Canino has informed us that “A year ago, President Barroso asked me to draft an independent report on the economic relations between the EU and the southern rim of the Mediterranean. In line with the president's wishes, this report will focus mainly on developing infrastructure networks and development hubs in the region and on defining the conditions for increasing European investment in the countries of the southern rim. It is, therefore, an expert report - which I am preparing along with the heads of the major companies in the region - which is not part of the European Commission's institutional operation. The report has, however, received contributions from 120 major Mediterranean economic players, who have hitherto been relatively uninvolved in this issue. It will be presented to the Commission president at the start of June and we hope that it will be of use to him as he considers how to structure future Euro-Mediterranean relations”. (O.J.)
