10/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission presented to the EU Council of Ministers on Monday 7 April a proposal for a decision aimed at establishing eligibility of five Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) to benefit from financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) with Community guarantee, in line with the Council Decision 2006/1016/EC which provides for the EIB's mandate to be activated in these countries, as decided by the Council on the basis of a Commission proposal. The 7 April proposal is part of the EU strategy for a new partnership with Central Asia adopted by the European Council during its session of 21-22 June 2007.
