02/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a press release on Monday 31 March, the Slovenian minister of the interior, Dragutin Mate, indicated that the Schengen Information System (SIS) had already proved very efficient in terms of security in Slovenia and the whole of the Schengen area. Over a seven month period, and thanks to the current SIS (SISone4A11), 9.56 million controls had been carried out on people, documents and vehicles over 501 km of common Slovenian and Croatian borders. 4661 controls paid dividends with regard to people or objects being searched for: 76 people were arrested, 3187 people were sent back over the border, 31 missing persons and 9 adolescents were found, 196 falsified or counterfeit documents were seized, 369 vehicles being searched for were found. Abroad, 21 people were arrested on the basis of European or international arrest warrants issued in Slovenia, 4 missing persons were found and 15 vehicles notified by Slovenia were seized. (B.C.)
