Lula criticises EU and US import taxes on Brazilian ethanol

Brussels, 28/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - With the EU and Brazil making slow progress since October of last year in negotiations on import duties on ethanol, on 20 March, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva openly criticised developed countries which impose import duties on Brazilian ethanol which is derived from sugar cane. “The United States and Europe do not impose import duty on oil, which is a pollutant, but they overtax our alcohol fuel,” he lamented.
