Germany allowed to lower taxes on diesel fuel used for port handling activities

Brussels, 28/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 27 February, the European Commission authorised a reduction in excise duty on diesel fuel used by port handling companies in Germany. The rate of excise duty will therefore fall from 47.040 to 6.135 euro cents per litre for these activities. The Commission and the Community courts have always considered reductions in excise duty which apply to only one business sector to be state aid.
