Brussels, 27/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - Meeting on 26 and 27 February in Brussels, the executive council of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), the body responsible for ensuring implementation of the Dayton Agreement, set the conditions for closure of the office of the High Representative for the international community in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which must mark the end of the country's transition process. In a declaration adopted unanimously, the PIC considered that, to complete the transition process (initially foreseen in June 2008), the authorities of Bosnia-Herzegovina should meet five key objectives. These are: acceptable and sustainable resolution of the issue of apportionment of property between state and other levels of government, resolution of defence property, completion of the Brcko Final Award (administered to date by the international community), fiscal sustainability, and entrenchment of the rule of law. Two other conditions are added to this: - positive assessment of the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina in relation to the Dayton provisions, on one hand, and the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) on the other. Evoked the day before by Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn 5EUROPE 9610), signing of the SAA in April, “could be realistic”, the High Representative for the international community and EU Special Representative, Miroslav Lajcak, indicated to the press after the meeting.
