Brussels, 21/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - In Strasbourg on Wednesday 20 February the European Parliament environment committee distributed responsibility for each of the dossiers which make up the climate change legislative package among the four main political groups.
Responsibility for the proposal for a directive to improve and extend the Community greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme (ETS) falls to the EPP-ED, from whose number a rapporteur will be appointed.
For the proposal for a decision on the effort to be made by member states in areas not covered by the ETS to meet the Community's greenhouse gas reduction commitments, the rapporteur will come from the Greens/EFA group.
The rapporteur for the proposal for a directive to provide a legal framework for the safe and ecologically sound capture and geological storage of carbon dioxide will be chosen from the ranks of the ALDE group.
Finally, it is the PES group which will provide the rapporteur on the proposal for a regulation on setting emission performance standards for new passenger cars and light-duty vehicles.
The Parliament's industry committee previously appointed Claude Turmes (Greens/EFA, Luxemburg) rapporteur for the proposal for a directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources - the final proposal in the energy-climate package presented on 23 January. (A.N.)
