BEUC says proposal on food labelling doesn't go far enough but Eurocommerce says it creates red tape

Brussels, 05/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission proposal aiming to rework, simplify and modernise food labelling legislation in the interest of consumer health and providing accurate information, is not creating much enthusiasm. Markos Kyprianou, European Commissioner for Health, pre-empted his critics by focusing on the “balanced nature of the proposal” presented on 30 January, which aims to better protect consumers without increasing the burden on the business community...
