17/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Confederation of Trade Unions (ETUC) published a press statement on 15 January in which it calls on the Commission to reintroduce the carbon tax on imports into future legislation on climate change. It notes “with great concern that the issues of employment and social transition” have been left out of the "Energy and Climate Change" package, which due to be published on 23 January. The ETUC calls for three points to be amended: the introduction of a carbon tax on imports; introduction of social standards for the production of biofuels and the opening of real negotiations with the European social partners on the Union's climate policy.
