Brussels, 17/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - The International ATD Quart Monde Movement (delegation to the European institutions) is organising a conference-debate on 30 January 2008 in Brussels on, “Persistent Poverty: a Challenge for Europe”. This conference-debate aims to explore and put forward ways of meeting the challenge for fighting poverty. Jéröme Vignon, director of the Protection and Social Integration union (DG Employment/Social affairs/Equal Opportunities) at the European Commission, will look at poverty in the EU today. Bronislaw Geremek MEP (ALDE, Poland) and former Polish minister for foreign affairs will be speaking on the link between respect for human rights and political action that take society's poorest people into account. Jean Tonglet, the director for the Joseph Wresinski International Centre (Baillet-en-France) will present Joseph Wrezinski's (the founder of the International ATD Quart Monde Movement) political action for promoting the participation of society's most excluded people, in political life, particularly in relations to the European institutions.
